Biographical Information:
He was a prominent businessman in the Winston-Salem area. Early in his life he acquired a plantation in Yadkin Co., NC, where he was a farmer and tobacco raiser. During the Civil War he supported the Confederate cause and provided care for families of soldiers serving in the war. His store and home was pillaged by Union troops. After the war he moved his tobacco plant to Augusta, GA. Later he moved to Winston-Salem, NC where he spent the remainder of his life. He and his wife are buried in Salem Cemetery. [89]
